This is a delicious recipe for a quiche that Lere brought to one of our tennis matches, it was a big hit!

Basic Veggie Quiche

  • 3 cups seasonal veggies, e.g. finely chopped onions, red, yellow, orange peppers, grated butternut squash, grated zuchinni, chopped mushrooms, chopped spinach.
  • 1 cup organic white cheddar cheese – grated
  • 1 cup organic cream
  • 4 Large eggs
  • Herbal salt to taste
  • Sauté the veggies in a little liquid veggie stock – low sodium and msg free for 2-3 mins.
  • Place the veggies in a greased baking dish. Add cheese.
  • Beat the eggs, cream and spices and pour over the cheese and veggie mixture. Mix well.
  • Bake at 350 C for about 20 – 30 min or until firm and golden brown.
  • Please note : You can add tuna, salmon or free-range chicken breast – shredded. Can also be baked in muffin pans to make individual quiches.

Okay, I glazed the front door with a “mocha” glaze by Valspar and it turned out great!  The glaze actually made some of the blue paint come off when I rubbed the glaze off with a cloth and it looked pretty cool so I intentionally rubbed some of the paint off to let the red paint show through.

Now I just have to let it dry completely, it is still a little tacky after 4 hours so I’ll just have to keep the door slightly open until it cures.  Again, the color in the photo is not exactly the actual color, the blue is a little greener but you can see the results of the technique…

This soap is great for getting out dried up paint on your paint brushes!  I tried it on some brushes I accidentally left in a bucket of paint and they were caked with dried up paint and really stiff.  I soaked them in a cup of pure undiluted Murphy Oil soap and after a little bit of manipulation they came out looking almost brand new!  Saved me a lot of money replacing the premium brushes I almost ruined!

I picked these up at Lowe’s and I am glad I did, they really help to paint the sides of whatever it is you want to paint by elevating it.

I am painting a piece of board that I am going to mount my antique paper cutter on so I can move it around whenever I need to.

This is the first coat of Caribbean Splash from Olympic paint. First I removed the door handle, the deadbolt lock, and the kickplate.  It kind of looks good with the old red color showing through!  I considered leaving it this way but decided to put on a second coat.

This picture (above) is closer to the actual color of the paint, blue is hard to photograph. The second coat makes the door look brighter, maybe a little too bright.  I decide to buy some flowers and pots and decorate before I decide if I like it or not.  My neighbors George and Ken are obviously dubious about the color but they are more the traditional type : )  My husband Steve is on the fence about it and so am I.

I am going to put a glaze over the door today to darken it up a bit, I wish the photo would show the true color!

I am going to paint my front door today!  I finished all the prep work yesterday and bought the paint, which is a dark turquoise color, and I am removing the hardware right now.  It has been red for about 10 years now and I saw some beautiful aqua blue pots at Lowe’s and it inspired me to go ahead and paint the door to match the pots.  I told you I have ADD!

This great tutorial from the DIY network is very helpful, I have always left the door on the hinges while painting but it is so easy to take it down. That makes it a lot easier to paint and keeps it from hitting the door frame before the paint dries.

My Peeps

The FCC photographer took our picture the first day and put it on the website, we were thrilled to make the cut!  Only it was missing one very important friend, J must have been working but we were on the FCC Facebook page all together and posing with Samantha Stosur, will post later.

Family Circle Cup.

I’m sorry for not posting anything last week!  I was attending the Family Circle Cup tennis tournament in Charleston, SC and never even turned on my computer.  Every year I attend this awesome event with my close friends and we always have such a good time and see some great tennis matches.  Serena was the tournament champion this year and she looked and played fantastic.  Can’t wait until next year!
